Ok it is not me that is supplying the funds, but my father for our new family car, but I will do everything, because he doesn't have the time. I will be flying to Frankfurt, Germany on Wednesday, thake a rent a car and starting a two day scourge for the best possible offering and then taking it back to Bulgaria. I have some finds from mobile.de and some other sites. If I had too choose all by myself, I would take an Alfa 159 with the 3.2 V6 and AWD(also this is the cheapest and most beautiful choice), but the preferred vehicles by my father are an E90 3 series diesel/E60 5 series diesel, a W211 E class, but after Borsuq article and some digging they are starting to drop on the wishlist. An early W204 is also an option. Still, becasue I have a fucked up mind I will justify taking an Alfa over a BMW or a Merc and I will be very happy. Also this is the only option in which I sell my CLK(this is my father's intension, me to drive the new car when he doesn't need it).

I doubt any other option will be as nice looking as that Alfa. Very nice.

A W211 should be fine as long as you go for one newer than 2006 and have it thoroughly checked. During the facelift they ironed out most of the issues. Still, in case of some serious bork you're going to need a really thick wallet. Same thing applies to BMWs.

Why are you going to Germany? I see this phenomena more often, trucks with Eastern-European plates loaded with second hand (in my case) Dutch cars going back to their home land. Are second hand cars more expensive in Eastern Europe?

The first problem is the lack of purchasing power in those countries. We just don't sell enough cars to supply a healthy second hand market, becasue we are poor. Unlike W.Europe where a car has a live of 4-6 years, before the owner sells it, we keep them, for 9-12 years. Second when someone buys a new car here it depreciates slower, because of the first point. Third there is no good car culture when the ultimate sports car is a BMW. People buy them in hoards. An E36 driving moron is one of the most common sights nowadays. Even today importing vehicles from Italy where cars depriciate very fast, because of their mad driving is better alternative then going in the west were you think cars are better maintained and driven. In the end buying a car in W. Europe can be if not cheaper, but the same expense like buying them from here, but you can get to choose from much more there then here. Also in order to be cheap most of the cars that get here have serious problems that show of the second you leave the dealer, because the practice of certifying a car is non existant, except for official importers of given brand.

Good god the 159 is a pretty car. Definitely on the list of best looking 4-doors of all time.
